Europe Region
While Europe has seen significant reforestation, many of its forests are monoculture plantations. Our focus is on “rewilding” - restoring native, mixed-species forests that are more resilient to climate change, pests, and fires, and that support higher levels of biodiversity.
Tree Allocation: 100 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Forest Steppe, Temperate Broadleaf Forest
Focus: The Emerald Network - restoring native oak, beech, and pine forests in the forest-steppe zone, enhancing ecological connectivity across the country.
Tree Allocation: 80 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Mediterranean Woodland, Temperate Broadleaf Forest
Focus: Dehesa and Beyond - expanding the ancient sustainable “Dehesa” system and reforesting wildfire-affected areas with fire-resistant native species.
Tree Allocation: 60 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Temperate Broadleaf Forest
Focus: From Emerald Isle to Forest Isle - reintroducing native Irish forests (oak, birch) to one of the least forested countries in Europe.
Tree Allocation: 50 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Temperate Conifer Forest, Boreal Forest
Focus: The Caledonian Forest Returns - rewilding the Scottish Highlands by replanting native Scots pine, juniper, and aspen to restore a functioning ecosystem.
Tree Allocation: 70 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Temperate Conifer Forest, Alpine
Focus: Carpathian Wilderness - protecting and restoring old-growth forests in the Carpathian Mountains, Europe's last great wilderness, home to brown bears, lynx, and wolves.
Tree Allocation: 60 Million Trees
Primary Biome(s): Mediterranean Forest, Temperate Broadleaf Forest
Focus: Regional Natural Parks - reforestation in Cevennes and Vercors parks to boost biodiversity and climate resilience.
Tree Allocation: 30 Million
Biome: Mediterranean Forests, Anatolian Steppe
Project Focus: Anatolian Forest Restoration - planting native tree species across degraded Mediterranean and steppe regions, preventing soil erosion, enhancing biodiversity, and empowering local communities to maintain sustainable forest management practices.
